Pre-Game: New York Mets (40-36) @ Los Angeles Dodgers (43-33)

on

Tonight the Mets open a 4 game series on the left coast against the Dodgers.  Coming off their 17 run outburst against the Cubs, the Mets meet an old friend who is having the best season of his career.  Chris Capuano (9-2 2.60 ERA) signed a 2 year/$10 mil deal in the offseason and will be on the mound for the Dodgers.   He’ll face off against Chris Young (1-1 3.42 ERA).  It’s going to be interesting to see how the soft tossing Capuano will handle the combo of Scott Hairston and David Wright.  The duo has been absolute death to lefties.  In 168 at bats against lefties this year, the combo has 8 homers and 31 RBI’s.  The Dodgers lineup will not have Matt Kemp or Andre Ethier who was just placed on the DL.  In their previous series, the Dodgers were completely shut out by the Giants, and have not scored a run in 30 consecutive innings.

Tonight’s first pitch is scheduled for 10:10pm .  the game can be seen on SNY and heard as always on WFAN 660 AM.

On The Mound

Chris Young (1-1 3.42 ERA) is on the hill for the Mets tonight.  Chris has done everything the Mets have asked for since making his return to the Mets after shoulder surgery.  He’s the same ol’ Chris Young.  In his last start against the Yankees, Young was cruising right along, throwing 6 innings of shutout ball, untill he ran into trouble in the 7th inning and allowed a 3 run homer to Raul Ibanez.  Young lives up and out of the strike zone, which is perfect for Chavez Ravine.  Especially against a Dodgers lineup void of Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier.

Chris Capuano (9-2 2.60 ERA) is having some kind of season for the Dodgers.  Most people laughed when Capuano got a guaranteed 2 year/$10 mil deal from the Dodgers in the off season, but who’s laughing now?  Capuano has been great at Dodger Stadium this year. He’s 5-0 with a 1.57 ERA in seven starts.  In Cap’s last start against the Angels, he went 7 innings and allowed only 1 run in the Dodgers 3-1 win.
