With the winter meetings underway, the rebuilding process for 2016 has begun. With the impending departures of Yoenis Cespedes, Daniel Murphy, Bartolo Colon and some other pieces, Sandy Alderson is going to have some work to do.
According to Newsday’s Marc Carig, the Mets have interest in outfielders Gerardo Parra, Denard Span and Dexter Fowler, and this would help their speed issue. Fowler would undoubtedly be pricy, and Parra is coming off of a disappointing second half. I’d imagine Parra or Span, who was injured much of last year, are more realistic than Fowler because they’d come cheaper.
The Mets are also interested in former Orioles reliever Darren O’Day, Carig reports, which is not surprising seeing as the Mets’ bullpen, aside from Jeurys Familia, was their achilles heal last season. I’d expect other names to surface as well, such as former Yankee Shawn Kelly and some left-handed specialists. I think a reunion with Jerry Blevins, who the Mets got in the Matt den Dekker trade, is likely.
Let the rumors swirl. Who would you sign if you were Sandy Alderson? Tell us in the comments section below.
