Subway Series Finale: New York Yankees (42-28) @ New York Mets (39-33)

on

Tonight at Citi Field, the Mets and Yankees square off on Sunday Night Baseball with the rubber game of the Subway Series part 2.  Last night in typical Yankee form, they got a 3-run opposite field bomb off the bat of Raul Ibanez in the top of the 6th inning to tie the score at 3.  Then in the following inning, Eric Chavez hit a solo homer that proved to be the difference.

Tonight, it’s a battle of initials on the mound.  C.C. (9-3 3.55 ERA) vs R.A. (11-1 2.00 ERA).  Hopefully with all of the hype that’s been built around this pitching match-up, it lives up to the hype.

First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 on ESPN and can be heard on WFAN 660 AM…I’m sure everyone would prefer that route.

On The Mound

For the Mets, Robert Allen Dickey (11-1 2.00 ERA) takes the mound in the most high-profile start of his career.  Dickeymania is EVERYWHERE.  Even the Anti-Mets contingency has been waiting to see what he’s up to with these 80 mph knuckleballs.  In R.A.’s last 6 starts (the last 2 have been complete game 1 hitter’s) he’s struck out 63 and walked 5 in 48 2/3 innings while holding opponents to a .131 average.  If Dickey didn’t have that awful start in the monsoon in Atlanta earlier this season, his numbers would be even more mind-blowing.  11-0 1.34 ERA and a 0.834 WHIP.

For the Yanks, C.C. Sabathia (9-3 3.55 ERA) will oppose Dickey.  The left-tackle, I mean left-hander, has won 4 of his last 5 starts with a 3.16 ERA.  In his last start on Monday, he threw a complete game 7-hitter with 10 strikeouts in the Yankees 6-2 victory over Atlanta.
