As we inch towards pitchers and catchers reporting, it would appear that Ike Davis will be the starter at first base when the Mets kick off their season.
Unlike many Mets’ fans, I am happy he’s still here. While the last couple of years have undoubtedly been frustrating, we all know that the talent is in there somewhere. It seems like Sandy Alderson would have dealt him if he got a solid pitching prospect, but I’m happy Davis is still a Met.
After a promising 2010, Ike Davis was limited in playing time in 2011. Although his batting average took a major dip in 2012, he still slammed 32 homers and drove in 90 runs. Last year, not to much. Just 9 homers and 33 RBI. You don’t give up on a guy that easily.
Plus, if Ike even comes half way to where he was, the Mets will be golden. With their underrated pitching, there’d be no reason why they couldn’t content for a wild card spot.
