Today is my birthday, and I’ll cry if I want to. (Sorry, I always wanted to say that)
As I reflect on my 28 years on this planet, I began to focus on the future, and the future of the Mets that is. So for my 28th birthday, I wanted to ask for 28 things from my favorite team. Due to my generosity and inability to think of that many things, I stuck with 10. What do you want from them?
- 89 wins, which would probably be enough to be in the thick of a wild card race
- David Wright returns to form. I am not expecting a vintage year. Give me 20 homers and 85 RBI and I will be happy.
- Repeat performance from Lucas Duda. We need him to continue to be a power threat from the left side in the middle of the batting order.
- Matt Harvey stay healthy. No matter how he performs, the most important thing is his health. Let’s be smart with his rest.
- No sophomore slump for DeGrom. Is Jacob really this good? Let’s hope so. With a suspect at best offense, we’re going to need to win a lot of 2-1 and 3-2 games.
- Progression for Wheeler? Despite some stellar moments from last year, he was inconsistent at times. Let’s see a step up in maturity.
- Murphy keeps mashing. Despite trade rumors, keep on keeping on. He’s the most consistent hitter in our lineup, and we need him to work on his fielding as well.
- Coming out party for Flores. Here are the keys to the car kid, take a drive. If he becomes a true everyday player, the Mets could be in business with his potent bat.
- Granderson power return. Give us five more homers, and maybe 30 less strikeouts. Is that too much to ask?
- Serious September baseball. We’re not asking for October, but we just want a chance. Do us a favor Mets. Shock us and deliver.
