I feel like I am on a cloud. After a 45 minute drive home from Brooklyn, it’s settling in…the Mets have beaten the Dodgers and they’re off to the NLCS to face the Chicago Cubs.
It surely wasn’t easy. Jacob deGrom sure didn’t have his A-game early, but he gutted through. After the Mets scored in the top half of the first on a Daniel Murphy RBI double, they had a 1-0 lead. But the Dodgers scored two in the bottom half, but deGrom limited the damage. See below for Murphy’s double:
The turning point, to me, is when the Mets tied it. After Murphy singled, Duda walked, and while third base was left uncovered, Murphy took the extra base, allowing him to score on Travis d’Arnaud’s sacrifice fly. See below:
This was clutch from Murphy, who’s not always known as a smart baserunner, and this will be the play everyone talks about tomorrow. Murphy wasn’t done though. He later would give the Mets the lead they would not relinquish. See below:
As for the bullpen, it was Noah Syndergaard in the seventh inning, and Thor got the job done, striking out Justin Turner with a man on to end the frame. See below:
Then it came down to Jeurys Familia, who was called upon to get a six-out save. He did not disappoint, and the Mets are now Division Series Champions. See below:
