Dickkkkkkkkkkkkkey! Mets 5, Orioles 0

I don’t even know what to say.  I’m speechless.  R.A. Dickey just continues to amaze, and I’ll tell you, it couldn’t happen to a better guy.  Dickey made history tonight, becoming the first Mets pitcher to throw back-to-back 1-hit shutout complete games (whew, that’s a mouthful).  He accomplished something tonight that hasn’t been done in the National League in 68 years!  The last time back-to-back CG 1-hit games were thrown was in 1988.  Dickey also had a career-high 13 strikeouts tonight.  Unfreakinbelievable.

That was also one of the fastest games I think I’ve ever watched.  Taking only 2 hours and 7 minutes, I found myself sitting there going “did that just happen?” and “it’s over already?”

Welcome back Ike Davis!  And what a way to make a statement.  After what was turning into a spectacular pitchers duel up through the 6th inning, good old Ike hit a grand slam to break a scoreless tie, giving the Mets a 4-0 lead.  The 5th Mets run would come in the 8th, when David Wright drove in Jordany Valdespin.

Baltimore starting pitcher Jake Arrieta was also having a very good night before Ike’s grand slam.  He had a curveball going tonight that was a thing of beauty.

Turning Point

Ike is back!  Davis’ grand slam in the 6th inning broke open a scoreless pitchers’ duel in the 6th.

Moment(s) of Note

Even the Home Run Apple wants the Mets to hit more home runs.  It made an impromptu appearance in the 1st inning, prompting Keith Hernandez to shout “get down!”

Terry Collins hugging R.A. Dickey after another historic night for Mets pitching.

Jordany Valdespin got his first 2 CitiField hits tonight, a double and a triple, respectively.

Who else?  R.A.
