Does Mets’ hot start compare to previous years? Let’s hope so!

on

Will this great start mirror some other great seasons the Mets have had? Let’s Hope So! Although most media outlets are recently comparing this season’s great start to the 2012 season we must not overlook the 2006 team. And quite frankly the 1985 team.

As we know the 2012 season was not one that we all like to remember but the 1985 and 2006 teams were ones to look back and reminisce fondly about. 1985 began with the Mets winning their first five games and this was the year that the Mets as a franchise was able to turn the corner after some down years. Although they narrowly missed the playoffs, they were embarking on what next year would be their last World Series title. To note is the fact that the Mets won 98 games and MISSED the playoffs (a different era). There were not any wild card or play-in games. The 2006 Mets began the year with four straight victories, and the Mets getting to a 5-1 record would be a great accomplishment, compared to the starts they have had in recent years.

The 2006 Mets made it all the way to the National League Championship Series. One can only hope for similar success and beyond for this year. There is a lot to like about this year’s team so far from the great pitching, timely hitting, to the smart managing, and passion the players are showing. Let’s hope the Mets not only win today against the Phillies but also tomorrow. This would get the Mets to a 5-1 record to start the season, and would be one of the best starts they have had. Either way this team has given us a lot to be hopeful for and let’s hope the great play continues….
