Recently, the Daily Stache exchanged emails with former Mets on-field reporter turned FOX’s golden boy, Kevin Burkhardt. One of my favorite things about him is he remembers where he came from and he continues to stay grounded.
I asked him what he thought of the Mets. Are they for real? He answered with a resounding yes.
“I’m really not sure how you can think they aren’t for real at this point,” Burkhardt said. “Even though it feels like half their wins are against the awful Phillies, they are a game out of first place. As poor as their offense has been at times, their pitching is too good to NOT be in the Wild Card mix.”
Well it seems like many are clamoring for a trade, reinforcements are on the way. David Wright and Travis d’Arnaud, both who’ve had injury setbacks, should be back before long. Jenrry Mejia will be back for the bullpen, and Jerry Blevins will be back by August. Maybe the Mets should make a move to improve the bench, but otherwise, they should still be in the thick of the Wild Card race, meaning some serious September baseball. Let’s get through that, and then we can talk about the later months.
