Even though things are looking good heading into the 2016 season, Mets fans, by design, are worriers. With Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard, Steven Matz and Zack Wheeler in tow, one thing is for sure — eventually these guys will all get paid.
The odds of the Mets keeping all of them as lifers seems slim to none. If you ask me, Syndergaard and deGrom are probably top priority, followed by Matz. Matt Harvey, although he took this city by storm and changed the culture, similar to what Pedro Martinez did when he arrived, may eventually be the odd man out, especially with Scott Boras being attached to his hip. As for Zack Wheeler, he’s a wild card, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s eventually included in a trade as well, especially if other less-expensive prospects develop during the next couple of years.
Former Mets’ General Manager Jim Duquette was on MLB Network Radio, and he thinks the Mets have a better chance to trade Harvey than to sign him to a long-term extension. What do you think? You can listen to Duquette’s comments below.
.@Jim_Duquette: it's more likely the #Mets will trade Matt Harvey than be able to sign him long term. https://t.co/PJGikz0nJq
