Even the most minor of Mets’ fans can understand that this team is going to go as far as their bullpen takes them, and right now, that’s a major concern.
I am not talking about Jeurys Familia, who gave up yesterday’s game-winning homer, but I am talking about set-up man Tyler Clippard, who’s looked more and more hittable as his time with the Mets has gone on, and a lot of that could probably be attributed to being over-used by Terry Collins and a little bit of fatigue setting in.
Here’s a look at his stats lately:
- Has allowed 9 ER (4 HR) in his last 9.2 IP. Allowed 1 ER in his first 19.2 innings (20 games) with the Mets.
- Lefties are 18-134 (.134) this year and .182 for his career.
- Opponents are hitting .136 (8-59) with RISP. Has two wins and eight holds with the Mets.
- The opposition is hitting .186 against him, the 12th-lowest mark in the majors (min. 40 IP).
- Acquired on July 27 with cash from the A’s for minor league RHP Casey Meisner.
Do we think he can bounce back? If I was a betting man, I’d think he’s going to be okay. Speaking of betting, you can check out baseball betting.
