Mets Sign Two International Shortstops

on

Venezuelan shortstop Andres Gimenez, the No. 2 international prospect, has agreed to sign with the Mets. The Mets also have agreed to sign 16-year-old Dominican shortstop Gregory Guerrero, the No. 6 international prospect, according to Baseball America.

Here’s more on Gimenez:

Gimenez, 16, earned high praise from scouts both for his lefthanded bat and ability to stick at shortstop. He’s 5-foot-11, 165 pounds with a sweet swing that works in games, above-average speed and the potential for average to above-average defense at shortstop. Gimenez trains with Eduardo Navarro.

Here’s more on Guerrero:

Guerrero, a nephew of former major league star outfielder Vladimir Guerrero, impressed scouts with his overall baseball IQ and ability to hit in games from the right side of the plate. At 5-foot-11, 175 pounds, Guerrero isn’t a big runner but scouts generally felt he had a good chance to stay at shortstop with an above-average arm. Guerrero trains with Wilton Guerrero, and he’s spent time in both the Dominican Prospect League and International Prospect League as well.
