Mets to unveil Tom Seaver statue on Opening Day

on

Wow, the past 24 hours sure have been a whirlwind. At this point yesterday, I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. After all, we’ve been through this so many times before. Optimism, followed by false hope, followed by disappointment. But that idea became a thing of the past around 3:15 p.m. when it was revealed that the MLBPA and the owners had finally come to terms on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Years ago, my father and I used to go to Opening Day every year, and with the general tone of this team changing with Steve Cohen’s ownership and the acquisitions of guys like Max Scherzer, Starling Marte, Eduardo Escobar and Mark Canha, I decided to take the plunge and surprise my dad with Opening Day tickets.

It feels like five minutes ago when I thought we’d never get there, but on April 15, not only will we Opening Day and all the hope it has to offer, but we will see the grand reveal of the Tom Seaver statue.

The late ‘Tom Terrific’ was the best pitcher and probably overall player this organization’s ever seen. First the team honored him with Seaver Way as part of Citifield’s address, but now, fans have a tangible memorial to visit that will commemorate Seaver’s years of greatness as part of the Orange and Blue.
