MLB Trade Rumors: Mets Will Sign…

on

MLB Trade Rumors released its annual top 50 free agent tracker with predictions on where people will sign, and if all were to fall into place, I don’t hate what they have the Mets doing.

First, both Daniel Murphy and Yoenis Cespedes are predicted to head to greener pastures. Murphy, 31, is expected to sign with the Angels for 4-years and $56 million, while Cespedes is predicted to end up in Los Angeles as well for 6-years and $140 million, or $23.3 million per season.

For the Mets, MLBTR says they will sign former Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond to a 5-year, $80 million deal, and former Cubs and Rockies outfielder Dexter Fowler to a 4-year, $60 million deal.

Although an upgrade to our current shortstop situation, Desmond is coming off of a down season to say the least. He hit just .233 with a .290 OBP, but he did hit 19 homers and drove in 62 runs. He also had some issues in the field. This honestly doesn’t seem like a Sandy Alderson-Type move.

As for Fowler, he hit .250 with a .346 OBP this season for the Cubs, and he’s much more an Alderson-type guy. He hit 17 homers, drove in 46 runs and stole 20 bases. He’d be a great piece to add to the top of the lineup.

If both of these pan out, here’s your likely lineup, in my estimation, assuming Wilmer Flores is your everyday second-baseman.

RF Granderson (lefty)
CF Fowler (switch)
SS Desmond (righty)
1B Duda (lefty)
3B Wright (righty)
LF Conforto (lefty)
C d’Arnaud (righty)
SS Flores (righty)

What do you think? Can that lineup make a run? What moves would you make this off-season? Tell us in the comments section below.
