On Monday afternoon, fans piled in front of the Jackie Robinson rotunda at Citi Field for an open house to send off the team’s equipment truck to Port St. Lucie.
Overall, I’m happy I went. After getting there at 11:20 a.m., it was quite evident that it was going to be well more than the 500 they estimated. Some workers, while unconfirmed, told me it was closer to 6,000, which created a little chaos.
Here’s the pros: Got voucher for two field level tickets to a weekday game in April, May or June, which is pretty cool. Also, got to meet Ed Kranepool, who’s a class act. He’s always been all about the fans. They also gave away coffee and donuts, which was a nice gesture in the bitter cold.
Here’s the cons: Due to the overwhelming response, the lines were insane. In fact, they cut off the line for clubhouse tours, and I missed it. They ran out of vouchers, so people were writing their email addresses down on pads. Who knows how that’s going to go? Mother Nature was not a nice lady today, as everyone was bundled up to combat the snow and the bitter cold.
For some photos of today, check out below. Overall, it brings me back to the days when I used to wait on line for tickets. I don’t miss braving that cold..that’s for damn sure.
