Post-Game: Marlins 6-Mets 5

on

The Marlins are able to squeak by with a comeback win in the bottom of the 9th with a blown save by closer Frank Francisco.  This came after the Marlins blew the lead in the 7th.  Besides for the loss, the Mets continued to look great.

Santana started off slow today, allowing 3 runs in the 1st inning, but nothing else after.  Santana would go 6 innings tonight and struck out 7.  He settled in after the 1st inning after giving up a 2 run home run to Austin Kerns.

The Mets would start their run in the 5th on Ike Davis’ 5th HR of the season.  Ike has been fantastic on the road this season, and all 5 of his HR’s have come on the road.

The Mets bats came alive in the 7th and 8th innings as they have been all season, scoring 1 in the 7th and 3 in the 8th to give the Mets the lead.  Mike Nickeas doubled to score Cedeno in the 7th, and then the pinch hitters took over in the 8th.  Kirk Nieuwenhuis doubled to score Wright, and then Mike Baxter doubled to center  to score Nieuwenhuis and Davis.

The Mets bullpen continues to stay strong, with a scoreless inning from Ramirez, an unearned run by Parnell who went 2 thirds in the 8th, and then Byrdak with the strikeout to close out the 8th.  The unearned run came on an error by Davis where Reyes reached safely.  Francisco was the only dull spot tonight in the bullpen, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits to blow his 2nd save of the season and record his 2nd loss of the year

The Mets will take the field again tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 PM.  Have a goodnight and try to drink these sorrows away.
