Pre-Game: New York Mets (19-14) @ Miami Marlins (17-16)

on

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms out there!  Without you, many of us would have had played baseball or became baseball fans.

After yesterday’s 9-3 schalacking of the Fish, the Mets look to take the rubber game of this three game series.  Once again, RA Dickey gave the Mets a solid start, and improved to 5-1.  Along with Dickey’s solid outing, the Mets bats came alive for 16 hits.  Every starter (except for the usual suspect, Ike Davis) had a hit in the game.  Even Dickey.  David Wright went 4-for-6 with a HR and 3RBI, to push his league leading batting average to .402.  Today, Jonathon Niese will be squaring off against Carlos Zambrano.  You NEVER know what you are going to get with Zambrano on the mound.  Personally, I’d like to see some water coolers smashed today.

The game can be seen on WPIX and heard on WFAN 660 AM

Pitching Matchup

Jonathon Niese (2-1 4.01 ERA) has not had a lot of success in his young career against the Fish. Niese is 1-4 with a 5.13 ERA. After a solid start to open the season, Jon hs struggled to get past the 5th inning in either of his past 2 starts. Everyone watching Niese knows he needs to throw the curveball more. He’s fallen in love with the cutter, and just can’t place it with pinpoint accuracy yet. A steady diet of curveballs to Reyes and Ramirez will surely keep them off-balance.

Carlos Zambrano (1-2 1.98 ERA) will oppose Niese today. This will be Zambrano’s first start against the Mets in a Marlins uni. While with the Cubs, Zambrano was 6-3 with a 3.39 ERA over 11 starts. Carlos has been great so far for the Fish. He hasn’t allowed an earned run in his past two outings. In his last game he threw a complete game 3 hitter against the Astros.
