Remembering the Not So Golden Days

April 5, 2011.

Five years ago today, Pitcher Chris Young made his first start for the Mets. Before going five and a third and striking out seven in what would be a 7-1 victory against the Phillies, Young wrote a small part of baseball history. His 3 for 3 day at the plate is now remembered as the first time a Mets pitcher recorded two hits in the same inning.

Fast forward five years, and things are very different for our Mets. Chris Young is the Royals starter this afternoon. Noah Syndergaard will be on the hill for the Mets. Advantage: Mets. Sometimes remembering days like these is all you need for a little perspective, when all that the media wants us to remember is Lucas Duda’s errant throw in Game 5 last year. Be grateful for what we have, Mets fans.

Just to get some more good feelings for the day, here’s the lineup TC put out that day against Cole Hamels:

Shortstop Reyes
Centerfield Pagan
Third Base Wright
Right Field Beltran
Left Field Hairston
First Base Davis
Second Base Emaus
Catcher Nickeas
Pitcher Young

Oh, the golden days. Let’s Go Mets!
