Report: Travis Jankowski makes Mets

on

It appears one of the Mets’ questions has been answered, at least for now. Veteran outfielder Travis Jankowski has secured a spot on the Mets’ bench, according to the New York Post’s Mike Puma. He will be traveling with the Mets to Washington, D.C. as they take on the Nationals on Opening Day this Thursday.

Jankowski has never been much of a hitter, but his speed and glove are undeniable. With the uncertainty around Brandon Nimmo’s stiff neck, along with Starling Marte coming off of a delayed spring due to injury, this makes sense. The Mets also do not have a ton of center field options, especially with Buck Showalter’s preference to keep Starling Marte in right field for consistency.

In fact, even Mark Canha got a start in center recently, so we’ll see how the situation develops. Hopefully, Nimmo’s neck issue will subside shortly so this won’t be a concern at all. Check out below. This is why he’s making the team.
