The Legend That is Dave Racaniello

on

For those who don’t know, Dave Racaniello is the bullpen catcher for the New York Mets.

The 36-year-old Connecticut native was a college teammate of Erik Bedard at Norwalk Community College and also played for Central Connecticut State University. He’s the best friend of a pretty important Met…David Wright. He’s been with the Amazins’ since 2001.

On Feb. 26, 2010, Racaniello biked from New York to Florida for the Spring Training. On Jan. 14, 2012, he reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, which he climbled with R.A. Dickey and Kevin Slowey. They raised funds for the Bombay Teen Challenge, an organization that rescues and cares for women and girls in Mumbai who are at risk of being abused and exploited.

Why he’s my hero: He holds the visitors clubhouse record at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia for the most Cheesesteaks consumed at 14. Rumor has it they were not in one sitting.

Fun Fact: I almost bought a used Dave Racaniello jersey from the gift shop at Citifield. Yes, I know. I should have done it, but I proved to be too cheap. My bad.
