Kudos to @theaceofspaeder on Twitter, who pointed out this insane statistic about John Olerud, who was very productive during his three seasons with the Mets.
John Olerud made 159 starts for the #Mets in 1999.He reached base safely in 150 of those starts. pic.twitter.com/fZSacesh12

That’s crazy. In three years as a Met, Olerud hit .315 with a .425 OBP. In 1,662 at-bats, he struck out just 206 times. By comparison, in Lucas Duda’s last three seasons, or 1,303 at-bats, he’s struck out 375 times.
Olerud was not only underrated, but he was a damn good ballplayer. Long live Lord Helmet.
