Time for the Mets to Sign Denard Span

on

It looks like the Cubs are one of the finalists to sign Jason Heyward, along with the Nationals, which if completed, takes them out of the market for an outfielder. That leaves Gerardo Parra, Dexter Fowler and Denard Span without teams.

I want the Mets to sign Span. And it sounds like, according to Twitter, he may be receptive to the idea of coming to the Washington Nationals enemy.

Limited due to injury last season, Denard Span hit .301 with a .365 OBP. He hit 5 homers and drove in 22 runs in just 246 at-bats. Although he hit just .197 versus lefties, he hit .335 versus righties, and that’s why the Mets should bring him in, preferably on a one or two-year deal. He also hit .382 with runners in scoring position, a stat that simply can not be ignored.

In 2014, Span was a force for the Nationals, hitting .302 with a .355 OBP. He hit 5 homers, drove in 37 RBI and stole 31 bases. He scored 94 runs and hit 39 doubles to go along with 8 triples.

Sign the man. I’d give him two years, but how much money? Who knows?
