Look up and down the Mets roster. Try and find an all-star.
I dare you.
The reality of the roster that Jeff Wilpon has commissioned to send into spring training is looking more and more like the 1962 Mets than anything I have seen since the early 2000’s. And even then, at least the Mets had Mo Vaughn.
In all seriousness though, with the idiotic rule of every team having to have an all-star in place, it is worth taking a look at which Met (and yes that is ABSOLUTELY singular) will be making the trip to Kansas City this July.
As far as I’m concerned, there is only one answer here. Ike Davis.
Now I would love to say that proclamation is founded out of hope that the Mets possess a young phenom at first basemen. To everyone’s dismay, it’s not. Instead, that proclamation is founded almost by default.
After an insanely painful injury to Ryan Howard, the departure of Albert Pujols and Prince Fielder to the American League, and every other team outside of Cincinnati’s lack of a first baseman—Ike Davis should be able to make this year’s National League All-Star squad with his eyes closed.
And by that I mean hit .260 with double digit home runs prior to the ASG and he is an absolute shoe-in.
I guess there is some optimism heading into this season after all…

I couldn’t help myself. My father ordered two of the below pins online, and now we pin them on our jerseys. Thoughts?
