Life is Good For a Mets Fan Right Now

on

What more can be said about this team? It’s gotten to the point where the Mets can give up the go-ahead runs late in the game and fans can shrug their shoulders. “So what? We’ll come back.” And lately the Mets have been doing just that. Yet another come-from-behind win last night. This team feels ready for a deep October run.

While it’s easy to start thinking about Divisional Series matchups, let’s not rush October. It can be tempting to check out emotionally just a little bit, what with the pennant race becoming a runaway and football season starting up. Before the stress of playoff baseball starts, we should fully enjoy this team and every laugher that they play in.

I was too young to enjoy the mid 80’s teams. For me it’s been a few years of glimmering hope surrounded by years upon years of utter dismay. Having said that, this is the best Mets team I’ve ever seen, 2006 Mets included. The way this team is coming together right now, it just can’t be captured in words. From top to bottom, all cylinders are clicking at the right time, and this team is having fun feeding off each other. Do not take this for granted. As we all know, things can change in a hurry this offseason.

And don’t let anyone say that this run is due to the mediocrity of the division. Part of the reason the NL East stinks this year, is because the Mets have helped to destroy it. And for the record, the way the Mets are playing right now, I think they’d be beating most teams in the league.

The next couple of weeks are for all the true fans out there. It’s to spite the naysayers: the ones who posted memes on the internet saying that the Mets would be buried by midsummer, for every person who posts that family guy clip every opening day. It’s to spite the media that loves kicking the Mets when they are down. Most importantly, the next couple of weeks are for the Mets fans who have never stopped believing. Bask in it.

About Darren Martino

I grew up a die hard Mets fan when everyone was jumping on the Yankees bandwagon. I blame the hype of Generation K. But I've stuck it out and am ready to reap the rewards. Let's Go Mets!!!! Follow me on twitter @dman_dm
